At the heart of artisanal craftsmanship

Everything begins in the hands of our craftswomen, whom we proudly call our Lionesses.

They live in villages and rural areas of Africa, where craftsmanship is not a hobby but a living heritage. A knowledge passed down from generation to generation, learned in childhood, to the rhythm of gestures repeated by mothers, aunts, and older sisters.

The making of a basket requires time, patience, and above all, a great deal of love. Some pieces take a few hours, others several days.
Every natural fiber is carefully selected, dried under the blazing sun, then colored using plant-based pigments.

At Lionnes de la Téranga, each item is entirely handwoven, with the fingers, without looms or machines. Every creation is the result of slow, meticulous work shaped with humility and expertise.

The fibers used in our creations come from local harvests, respectful of the seasons and of nature.

Elephant Grass from Ghana, flexible, strong, and biodegradable

Typha, the reed of Senegal’s rivers, with its fine weaving

Raffia, from the large crackling palm trees of Burkina Faso, soft, durable, and biodegradable

Manufacturing time

Depending on the piece, the production time varies:

About 1 day for a small item

Up to 1 week for a large basket.

Maintenance

Our items are known for their water resistance. To maintain them over time, here are our simple care tips: Senegal baskets: a damp cloth is enough. Ghana baskets: damp cloth or full rinsing with water.

Raffia accessories: damp cloth, rinsing possible, and gentle ironing allowed.
